Biographical Presentation
Albers: Joh. Christoph A., Arzt, geb. 13. März 1795 in Bremen, studirte in Göttingen, trat 1814 in preußische Dienste und machte als Stabsarzt den Feldzug mit. 1817 ging er als Kreisphysicus nach Allenstein in Ostpreußen, kam 1820 an die Regierung in Gumbinnen, 1832 nach Berlin, übernahm 1840 die Direction der königl. Thierarzneischule und zog sich 1849 in das Privatleben zurück; später lebte er in Heidelberg und starb auf einer Reise in Stuttgart am 27. Sept. 1857. Die Muße seiner letzten Jahre verwandte er besonders zu malakologischen Studien. Als werthvolle Resultate derselben nennen wir seine Beschreibung der Mollusken Madeira's (1854) und die Monographie der Heliceen (1850). Seine Schriften finden sich bei Heinsius-Kaiser, Bücherlex. Bd. 6 und 8 und in Engelmann's Bibl. hist. nat. Suppl. II. 1827 verzeichnet.
